Web bookmarks (vol.2)
Here are some personally curated blogs, websites, and articles that I've been enjoying the past few weeks.
- Juice to drink - successfully convinced my long-time IRL friend to migrate to bear blog. He's been blogging/creative writing for as long as I can remember, and was one of my inspiring friends in the creative field. Check his writing out sometime, it's worth it.
- Hyperbole and a half - Here's a classic, one of the pioneers of blogging back in the early days. I bought the most recent book she released like three years ago and I dusted it off my bookshelf to read and become my main inspiration for a certain project. I also bought the first book online to complete the collection.
- Aboutideasnow - I found this resource site through another blog (I'm sorry for forgetting who it's from) and decided to keep it bookmarked over here for personal use.
- Snifflebear - This blog unleashes my inner girly teenage self who obsesses over pink, excessively use kaomojis in every line, fill the page with adorable kawaii icons, and passionately ramble about things I love without rhyme or reason. A part of me wants to do this, a part of me thinks I will be better off writing a bit more professionally, but they are both my true selves and I'm not too stressed over it.
Web bookmarks
- A website is a room - a wonderful list of other people's homes (websites).
- fragments scenario - a cool, professional portfolio that houses art.
- ritualdust - the personal site of a folk and fantasy artist.
- brocks room - the personal site of a musician/artist. Very cool!
- 100daystooffload - a blogging challenge for those who want to write more.
Substack bookmarks
I've been browsing Substack more frequently after finishing my morning RSS feed newspaper. I'm not just haphazardly subscribing to every interesting newsletter I see. My current system is browsing through notes and people's reads, bookmarking articles that I find interesting from them, and reading them after to see if I enjoy their writing style and content. When I enjoy an article, I hit the like button as a means to turn it into its own collection and keep track of my favorites.
- No Good Alone - the very first essay I read on Substack and the best introduction to the platform I've ever experienced. It was thought provoking, articulate, and wonderfully written. It's going to be one of my staple recommendations for anyone who wants to see what the platform has to offer.
- (in)action movie - It's not an essay topic I would usually dive into, but it's still an interesting and thoughtful written piece that got me hooked with the writing style and personal humor. There's so much personality in it I'm excited to read more essays from them.
Future reads:
- Who am I without the internet? - on forming an identity based on people i come across online and other things
- Streaming consciousness - the double-edged sword of creating and consuming art in the age of the internet
- When True Love doesn't feel real - The limits of romance in the 21st Century
- The unfortunate cruelty about being "cool about it" - ### i love you boygenius, but i cannot hide my feelings any longer! I feel so much and i'm tired of pretending that i don't.
I think I'll be using Web bookmarks as my main title for sharing my favorite and future collections or both explored and unexplored links.
