A few months ago I received a random email from a tech company offering me a position in an annotation project for AI. I don’t remember signing up for AI job opportunities, so I’m assuming the job board applications were shared across the entire network.

I’ve never deleted an email that fast in my entire life.

It made me contemplate on the current situation and trends of the industry I graduated from. I might not be using my degree right now, but I sure as hell don’t even want to try at all anymore with the way things are going. The whole world is focused on this new shiny play thing without noticing how fucking dystopian the world is becoming with it. If every company is adopting this technology, of course it’s going to fucking grow and keep getting bigger. It’s being forced on us, shoved down our throats against our will (except for those without resistance, they’re gladly eating all this shit up). Even if I try to leave the IT industry itself, the rest of the world have been trying to get their hands on it, introducing AI in their services in some shape or form, for bigger profi- I mean, for the people of course.

It’s so fucking depressing.

Despite leaving Twitter, I realize there’s no safe place to take refuge in when it comes to AI. It’s disappointing and equally frustrating to see it in supposed intimate and ”indie” human spaces. Perhaps there really is no escape when you’re on the internet.

It was especially disheartening to see on Substack. I saw someone’s comment complaining about how some random big user was ”poaching her network with AI” (and blocking her), but she herself uses AI to generate her thumbnails/cover images. My eyes had a seizure from all the blinking I did. The call is coming from inside the fucking house.

Ah yes, let’s all blindly praise technology because of how insanely advanced it can be, and all the endless potential that it could be used for (but of course let’s turn a blind eye on what’s actually happening and all the horrid things it’s being used for right now because that shouldn’t matter, right? I’m enjoying it and benefiting from it so who cares!)

We’re cultivating a society that doesn’t care about art or even anything anymore. We’re invading the most human expressions and removing the “tedious process” for those who just want the end result. We’re trying to simplify the simplest things in an industry that does not concern them, removing the joy of learning and working for something that you do out of passion. This is not the same as the fucking Industrial Revolution, you are not going to die if you cannot draw.

We know that the internet has shifted into a corporate playground to turn us into blind consumers, how is this any different? After making sure we were constantly getting dopamine and actively consuming content 24/7, they slide in machine-made garbage and slowly but surely making sure we learn to live with it and accept it as part of our daily lives.

First it was just for fun, chat bots are new and interesting! They can mimic human responses, that’s so cool! Oh, they can write essays now? That’s perfect for academic papers so students don’t have to work on tedious shit or learn how to write in a higher level. The images generated looks so goofy and spaghetti.. oh what’s that? A video of a puppy in a snow- wait, that’s not real?

Now that the masses consume shit without questioning it, with media literacy becoming obsolete and people are slowly having a hard time distinguishing what’s real or not.. soon enough everyone would be compliant; we’ll all be too exhausted to fucking care.

Why are we so obsessed with making every single thing in our lives easier? Why do we keep chasing convenience? Are we going to keep automating every part of our lives until our souls are sucked dry and technology does everything for us? Is that the end goal? Are we so bored we just simply don’t want to do anything at all anymore? Wall-E, anyone?

Do you want to make a quick buck? You can mass produce soulless images and novels in minutes and sell them!

Hold the fuck up, why is this technology fucking accessible by the masses again?

This world is fucking doomed.
